Overview

VR Connex is a deeply human project — a VR platform designed to connect elderly family members with the moments that matter most to them. Built with 360° cameras and a UX philosophy centered entirely around seniors, VR Connex allows grandparents and elderly relatives to virtually attend weddings, birthday parties, and family gatherings in real time, feeling present in the room even when physical distance or mobility make attendance impossible.

The Challenge

Consumer VR products are almost universally designed for young, tech-savvy audiences. Yet one of the most powerful applications of immersive technology is bringing presence to people who are isolated — seniors living far from family, those with limited mobility, or individuals in care settings who can no longer travel. VR Connex had to solve a unique design challenge:

  • Make VR approachable and comfortable for elderly users with little or no tech experience
  • Create a seamless pipeline from live 360° capture at an event to real-time viewing in a headset
  • Minimize setup friction so family members can enable the experience without technical expertise
  • Prioritize emotional resonance over technical novelty

Our Solution

Virtual Verse Studio approached VR Connex with empathy-first design at every stage:

  • Senior-centered UX — every interaction was designed assuming the user had never worn a VR headset before; large text, simple navigation, voice guidance, and minimal controls made the experience accessible to anyone
  • 360° live event capture pipeline — a practical, portable camera setup that family members could deploy at any event without specialist knowledge, feeding live 360° video directly to the senior's headset
  • Comfort optimization — careful attention to frame rates, field of view, and movement parameters to minimize VR discomfort for users who may be more sensitive to visual motion
  • Guided setup experience — a step-by-step onboarding flow that family members could walk their elderly relatives through over a phone call, lowering the barrier to first use dramatically

Key Features

  • Live 360° video streaming to VR headset
  • Senior-first UX with simplified controls and large visual elements
  • Portable event-side camera setup for family members
  • Comfort-optimized VR parameters for elderly users
  • Guided onboarding designed for non-technical users

Results & Impact

VR Connex demonstrated that immersive technology can serve demographics that are rarely considered in product design. The platform created real moments of connection — elderly users who watched family events through the headset described the experience as genuinely emotional, as close to being there as technology currently allows. The project reflects Virtual Verse Studio's belief that the most meaningful applications of XR are the ones that bring people together.
