Privacy Policy — Step It

Step It is made by Virtual Verse Studio LLC. Effective 16 September 2026.

This page explains what the game collects, why, and what you can do about it.

There is no account. You never give us an email address, a phone number or a password, and the game never asks you to sign in.

What the game collects

An anonymous player ID. When you first open the game it signs in to Unity Gaming Services anonymously, which creates a random player ID stored on your device. It is not derived from your name, your phone number or your store account.

Your progress. Your level, trophies, coins and gems, the heroes, emotes and frames you own, your Step Pass progress and your settings are saved on your device and backed up to Unity Cloud Save under that player ID. Because there is no account, deleting the game or clearing its data starts a new player ID, and the old progress cannot be recovered.

Your display name. It starts as “Player” and you can change it in Settings. It is saved with your progress and analytics. It is not shown to the opponents you play online.

Online matches. To connect you with an opponent, the game uses Unity Multiplayer and Relay, which pass match traffic between the two devices. Like any internet service, this handles your IP address to route the connection. Room codes you share with a friend exist only for that match.

Purchases. Payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google. We never see your card details, your billing address or your store account. When you buy something, the store's receipt is sent to our server function on Unity Cloud Code to confirm it is genuine, and we keep a record of that transaction against your player ID so the same purchase cannot be claimed twice.

Gameplay analytics. The game sends usage events to PostHog, our analytics provider, so we can see how the game is played and fix what is not working:

  • when the game is installed, opened, updated or put in the background;
  • each finished match — win or loss, mode, whether it was against the computer, your hero, how long it took and the trophies it moved;
  • which reminder notification, if any, opened the game;
  • a summary of your profile — display name, level, trophies, matches played and won, heroes owned, coins and gems;
  • your device model, operating system and version, screen size, app version and language;
  • technical error reports if the game hits a problem;
  • your approximate location (country and city), which PostHog works out from your IP address.

These events are linked to your anonymous player ID. They are never used for advertising.

Notifications. If you allow notifications, the game schedules reminders on your device — for example when your daily drop is ready or a new season starts. They are created on the device itself; no push token or contact details are sent to us. You can turn them off at any time in your device's settings.

What the game does not collect

No precise location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone, and no advertising identifier. The game never tracks you across other companies' apps and websites, so on iOS it never asks for permission to.

Advertising

Step It has no ads. There is no advertising SDK in the game, and nothing the game collects is used to show you ads.

Where the data goes

We share data only with the service providers that run the game for us:

These providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. We do not sell your data.

How long we keep it

Your saved progress is kept for as long as the game's online services run, or until you delete it. Analytics are kept only as long as they help us improve the game, and are deleted on request. Purchase records are kept as long as needed to prevent the same purchase being claimed twice and to meet legal obligations.

Children

Step It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets that age). If you believe a child has played and you would like their data removed, email us and we will delete it.

Reset, delete and your rights

Delete your data in the game: open Settings and tap Delete my data. This permanently deletes your cloud save and the player ID behind it, erases your progress on the device, and starts analytics again under a new, unconnected ID. It does not refund or remove purchases, which you can restore from the store screen.

Reset your progress only: Reset all progress in Settings wipes your progress on the device and in the cloud, but keeps your player ID, display name and sound settings.

Ask us to delete everything else: the in-game deletion cannot reach analytics already sent or our purchase records. To have those deleted too, or to ask for a copy of the data we hold, email support@virtualverse.studio with the subject “Step It — data deletion request”. We will confirm and complete it within 30 days, at no charge.

If you are in the EEA or the UK, you also have the right to object to processing and to complain to your national data protection authority.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top. Material changes will be announced in the game.
