This policy explains what Zombie Mango collects, why, and what you can do about it. It describes the app's actual behaviour, not a generic template.
The short version
- We do not ask for, or collect, your name, email address, phone number, or location.
- We do not create an account for you. The game is playable with no sign-in.
- Your game progress is stored on your own device, not on our servers.
- We collect anonymous gameplay statistics to make the game better. You can switch this off inside the game at any time.
- Ads and purchases are handled by Unity, Apple and Google, who have their own policies.
1. What we collect
1.1 Anonymous gameplay analytics
When analytics are enabled (they are on by default and can be switched off — see §4), the game sends anonymous events such as: starting and finishing a run, the wave and tier reached, gold and gems earned or spent, upgrades and research purchased, heroes unlocked, screens opened, ads watched, and purchases completed.
Each event carries a snapshot of your in-game state — your wave record, currency balances, selected hero, days since install, and app version — so we can tell whether the game is too hard, too slow, or broken.
These events are tied to a random identifier generated on your device the first time you play. It is not your device ID, not your advertising ID, and not linked to you personally. If you reinstall the game, a new random identifier is generated and the previous one is orphaned.
Our analytics provider is PostHog (posthog.com), which processes this data on our behalf.
1.2 Approximate location, from your IP address
Our analytics provider derives an approximate country and region from your IP address so we can understand where players are. We do not use GPS, and we do not store your IP address as part of your player profile.
1.3 Purchases
If you buy something, the transaction is handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see or receive your payment card, billing address, or account details. We record only that a purchase of a given product completed, so we can grant the item and so that “Restore Purchases” works.
1.4 Advertising
The game shows rewarded video ads — ads you choose to watch in exchange for an in-game reward. There are no forced ads: nothing plays between runs and there are no banners. These are served by Unity Ads. To serve them, Unity may process your device's advertising identifier and general device information.
You can turn personalised ads off in the game's Settings screen. With it off, you will still see ads, but they will not be selected based on your activity.
On iOS, the system also asks for your permission before any app can track you across other companies' apps; if you decline, ads are not personalised regardless of the in-game setting.
1.5 Notifications
If you allow notifications, reminders are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device — for example, when your idle camp is full or research has finished. No notification content leaves your phone, and we do not operate a push server.
1.6 Crash and error information
Store platforms may provide us with anonymous crash reports so we can fix faults. These are governed by Apple's and Google's own policies.
2. What we do not collect
- Your name, email, phone number, or postal address
- Precise or GPS location
- Contacts, photos, microphone, or camera data
- Payment card or bank details
- Any data from children under 13 knowingly (see §7)
3. Why we collect it, and our legal basis
| Purpose | Data | Legal basis (UK/EU GDPR) |
|---|---|---|
| Fixing bugs and balancing difficulty | Anonymous gameplay events | Legitimate interests |
| Delivering rewarded ads | Advertising identifier, device info | Consent |
| Personalising ads | Advertising identifier, activity | Consent (you can withdraw it) |
| Completing and restoring purchases | Purchase records | Performance of a contract |
| Local reminders | Nothing leaves your device | Consent |
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers.
4. Your choices and controls
Everything below is available inside the game, under Settings:
- Share usage data — turn analytics off. Anything not yet sent is discarded.
- Personalised ads — turn off ad personalisation.
- Reminders — turn notifications on or off.
- Reset progress — erase all local progress and purchases on this device.
You can also turn notifications off, and reset your advertising identifier, in your device's own system settings.
5. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, to object to processing, or to complain to a data protection authority.
Because we hold no account and no name, we usually cannot connect a request to a specific person without the random identifier described in §1.1. To make a request, email support@virtualverse.studio. We will respond within 30 days.
To delete your data: using Reset progress in Settings erases everything on your device. To have anonymous analytics associated with your install deleted from our provider, see the data deletion request page.
6. Where data goes, and how long it is kept
Analytics data is processed by PostHog on servers in the United States. If you are in the UK or EEA, transfers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses.
We retain anonymous analytics for up to 12 months, after which it is deleted or aggregated. Purchase records are kept as long as needed to honour restores and meet tax and accounting obligations.
7. Children
Zombie Mango is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK where required), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact support@virtualverse.studio and we will delete it.
8. Third parties
These companies process data as described above, under their own policies:
- PostHog — analytics — posthog.com/privacy
- Unity Technologies — ads and in-app purchasing — unity.com/legal/game-player-and-app-user-privacy-policy
- Apple — App Store purchases — apple.com/legal/privacy
- Google — Google Play purchases — policies.google.com/privacy
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, where the change is significant, tell you inside the game.
