Overview
The Road Safety Authority (RSA) of Ireland needed a digital learning platform that could teach children road safety in a way that would stick. Working with the RSA, Virtual Verse Studio built a 3D interactive learning portal that places children inside animated, immersive environments where road safety concepts come alive — not as abstract rules, but as real situations they navigate and respond to. The platform was adopted into the Irish national primary and secondary school curriculum.
The Challenge
Road safety education for children faces a fundamental problem: the stakes are real, but the traditional tools — posters, videos, and worksheets — fail to create the emotional and experiential connection needed to change behavior. The RSA needed a platform that:
- Engaged children aged 6–16 across a wide range of learning levels
- Made abstract road safety concepts tangible and memorable
- Was accessible from schools without specialized hardware or IT infrastructure
- Met curriculum standards for both primary and secondary education
- Could be maintained and updated reliably over time
Our Solution
Virtual Verse Studio developed a browser-based 3D learning portal that children can access from any school computer:
- Interactive 3D environments — children navigate scenarios as pedestrians, cyclists, and passengers in richly detailed road environments, making decisions and seeing their consequences in real time
- Age-appropriate learning paths — distinct curriculum tracks for primary and secondary students, with escalating complexity and interaction depth
- Scenario-based learning — instead of telling children what to do, the platform puts them in situations where they must apply road safety knowledge to make correct choices
- Curriculum alignment — every module was designed against Irish national curriculum standards, ensuring teachers could integrate the platform directly into lesson plans
- Browser-based accessibility — no downloads or installs required, making deployment across Irish schools straightforward
Key Features
- Browser-based 3D interactive learning environments
- Age-segmented curriculum tracks (primary and secondary)
- Scenario-based decision-making activities
- Aligned to Irish national curriculum standards
- Accessible on standard school hardware
Results & Impact
The RSA portal was adopted into the Irish national school curriculum — a significant institutional endorsement of its educational quality. Teachers and curriculum coordinators praised the platform’s ability to engage students who were otherwise difficult to reach with traditional road safety materials. The client noted that the new platform exceeded expectations in stability, modernity, and educational depth.
“Virtual Verse Studio exceeded our expectations — the new platform feels more stable, modern, and immersive than the original. Their team was responsive, professional, and truly understood the educational purpose behind the project.”
